What is a CEGEP?

What does the word CEGEP mean exactly? It’s an acronym for “Collège d’enseignement général et professionnel” and in Québec, it’s the first level of higher education. There are more than 60 private CEGEPs and colleges in Montréal. CEGEPs offer two paths: pre-university training and technical training. With their two parallel tracks and specific programs, CEGEPs prepare students for either university or the job market.
