If you’re not familiar with Montréal yet and you’re wondering about which places to visit, there’s no shortage of inspiring spots to explore and capture with your camera.

If you’re passionate about photography or simply want to share your travel adventures with friends and family, you’ll be happily surprised by Montréal. With so many different spots to have fun with your camera, I can’t possibly list them all. Firstly, the list would be too long! And secondly, if your photos end up looking the same as all your friends’, they’d lose their unique charm.

But I can definitely point you in the direction of a few special spots and types of photography to capture the city in all its glory.

A few iconic spots

There are a few famous spots in the city that you won’t want to miss! From the urban landscape of Griffintown and the colourful apartments of the Plateau to the beautiful nature of Mont-Royal with all its flora and fauna (not forgetting its legendary look-out point with spectacular views of the city), the shooting options are endless in Montréal!

It’s up to you to get creative and find your own style. Take advantage of certain times of the day or night or even weather conditions to play around with moods, effects and colours behind the lens.

A picture-perfect city

You’ll probably have noticed while researching Montréal that the city has a world of potential for great photos. But to get the best shots, you have to travel around the city and discover hidden gems for yourself. The artistic and colourful murals are always worth a look. Far from lowering the tone of the city, Montréal’s murals are like an urban art gallery with new surprises to discover around every corner.

I still find new murals in my neighbourhood or while I’m out walking around the city. You should also keep your eye out for pop-up event installations if you’re looking for detail and colour. Their unique and magical design bring the city streets to life, creating the perfect opportunity to capture an original vibe.

Photography in all four seasons

If you’re planning to stay in Québec for more than a couple of weeks on vacation, you’ll get to witness the landscape transform as the seasons change. Just watching summer turn to fall is something special and the perfect time to capture amazing pictures.

The same applies for the arrival of winter, when the city streets transform into a snowy winter wonderland.

Just as Québec plays host to countless activities all year round, photography is popular in all four seasons. The changing weather and landscapes offer endless inspiration and a chance to spark your creativity.

So much to explore!

You’ll never run out of new and interesting photo spots to discover in Montréal and the rest of Québec, and that’s one of the many reasons I often bring my camera with me while I’m exploring the island. With so many different effects triggered by the weather, the seasons and the time of day, the possibilities are endless. Experiment with different photography styles to develop your creativity. The key is not to limit yourself when it comes to exploring the city and province!
