Why Greater Montréal is a Cultural Hub?

Greater Montréal stands out from other North American urban centers by its size and diverse cultural offer. Since it is a multicultural metropolitan area, Greater Montréal has a wide variety of activities to choose from: local and international, festivals, exhibitions, museums, concerts and performances. You can find something to do, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!

Things to Do in Summer and in Winter

During the winter, the metropolitan area lights up with events such as Montréal en Lumière or Igloofest. During the summer, Greater Montréal comes alive with major festivals such as the International Jazz Festival, the FrancoFolies or the Piknic Électronik. People also enjoy the Tam-tams at the Mount Royal Park in the summer.

But Greater Montréal is fueled by culture all year round.

Greater Montréal Shines

In addition to major events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, Just for Laughs Comedy Festival or Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, the metropolitan area also plays host to many alternative festivals such as Osheaga, POP Montréal or ZooFest.

Every year, in addition to exhibitions, concerts, theatre programming and shows, over 120 events and festivals enliven the metropolitan area.

One Stop Addresses

The La Vitrine website regroups the main cultural events. Other websites such as Tourisme Montréal or the cultural media Voir (in French only) feature things not to be missed.

Privileged Access

The Accès Montréal Card offers Montrealers a generous privilege program including discounts, exclusive offers and contests.

La Vitrine also offers the Passeport MTL étudiant international which allows newly arrived students to enjoy privileged access to a host of cultural events, special offers and networking activities. There’s also Tourisme Montréal’s Passeport MTL culture which give tourists access to the hottest cultural activities and free public transit city-wide for 24 or 72 hours.

Culture All Around

Inspiring cultural events exist in the city’s suburbs as well. The cities of Laval and Longueuil also offer many cultural activities.

Montréal's downtown area has over 180 performance venues, 65 museums and 270 movie theaters.
