Position Summary

The DevOps at Nuance R&D is the cornerstone of the SaaS initiative, driving deployment excellence and product quality through a software-defined approach to operations and infrastructure. We are looking for an individual with a passion for both development and infrastructure, who dreams of programmatically controlling the full stack needed to run high quality SaaS products.

The DevOps intern will be part of a dynamic team, collaborating with the R&D organization to build out a release pipeline for their products and services. He will be participating by helping to ensure the infrastructure portion of the service stack has an SDLC and that the processes and environments force quality and correctness into the dev/test cycles prioritizing service Availability, Performance, Capacity, Security and Compliance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute into the design, development and evolution of the system
  • Design, document, implement and unit test of the server components
  • Ensure products meet all relevant specifications and quality standards
  • Perform tasks related to securing and keeping the products, tools, and processes that you are responsible for security

Qualifications

  • You are currently enrolled in a fulltime degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar.
  • Strong scripting background with Perl or Python
  • Experience with software build and release engineering
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows platforms
  • Knowledge in as Saas environment
  • Knowledge of basic tcp/ip networking and DNS
  • Hands on knowledge of K8 and/or Docker
  • Configuration Management or Orchestration with Ansible or SaltStack or Puppet or Chef or any Infrastructure as code
  • XML/XSD, Git/Git Flow, build tools (ex. maven/make/cmake/gradle), CI/Build Servers (ex. Jenkins/Bamboo), Issue Tracking (Jira), bash/PowerShell/python scripting.
  • Strong software or system troubleshooting capability
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • You are eligible to work full time (40h/week)

Working on what kinds of projects?

  • Design, build and upgrade of speech applications for organizations such as banking and utility systems.
  • Improve existing voice biometric tools (“my voice is my password”) using Python and write scripts so that the tools work together.
  • Work on modification of a SOAP API to provide new features to a client.
  • Creation of a tool in Jenkins to automatically install Kubernetes and helm in multiple virtual machines.
